A fantastic achievement for Konstantinos, who successfully defended his doctoral thesis today. It marks the culmination of five years of dedication, hard work, and scientific discovery. We warmly congratulate Dr. Fragkoulis on this well-deserved accomplishment! We are especially proud that Konstantinos is the first doctoral student from our lab to complete a thesis in cancer microbiology. We sincerely thank the opponent, Prof. Teresa Frisan from Ume\u00e5 University, as well as the members of the examination committee for their contributions to this occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-05-20<\/strong> – Thesis “nailing<\/em>“!<\/strong>
Huge congrats to Konstantinos who nailed<\/em> his thesis, a Swedish tradition in which a few weeks before the public defense, doctoral students attach their thesis to a wooden board. This symbolic practice originally meant to make the work publicly available for scrutiny and discussion. This marks an important milestone on Konstantinos\u2019 journey toward his PhD defense, and it is also a proud moment for the lab, as he is on track to become the lab\u2019s first PhD graduate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-05-10<\/strong> – Cell Symposium on Host-Microbiome Dynamics, Bruges, Belgium<\/strong>
Konstantinos and Marie-Steph attended the Host-Microbiome Dynamics symposium organized by Cell Press in Bruges, where Konstantinos presented a poster on his PhD work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-05-04<\/strong> – Manon joins the lab<\/strong>
We welcome Manon Louazon from Polytech Nice Sophia who joined the team for her 4th-year engineering school internship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-04-29<\/strong> – 20th<\/sup> International p53 Workshop, Toronto, Canada<\/strong>
Sylvain presented our work at the 20th International p53 Workshop held at the SickKids Peter Gilgan Centre for Research & Learning in Toronto. His talk highlighted our group\u2019s latest research on the regulation of p53 by bacteria to the international p53 research community. This fantastic meeting was a great opportunity to get an update on the leading edge of p53 research, exchange ideas with leaders in the field, and strengthen collaborations within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2026-04-20<\/strong> – New publication out<\/strong>
Our study exploring how microbiota-driven mechanisms contribute to chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer is now published in Cell Death & Disease<\/em>. The work highlights the role of microbiota in regulating p53 via the tumor microenvironment, underscoring the complexity of bacteria-tumor interactions in therapy response.

Konstantinos received a competitive travel grant from Radiumhemmets Forskningsfonder to attend the Cell Symposium on Host-Microbe dynamics, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sylvain has been awarded a three-years project grant from the Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden) to study the mechanisms of p53 dysregulation by oncogenic bacteria in cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2025-10-24<\/strong> – The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences features our research<\/strong>
The Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) produced a short film highlighting our recent Cell publication conducted in collaboration with Saei\u2019s lab (Karolinska Institute) and Collins lab (MIT). In the film, which was presented during the IVA annual meeting<\/a> in Stockholm City Hall, Marie-Steph presents our collaborative study on generative AI for antibiotic design, together with Dr. Amir Ata Saei and Dr. Edmund Loh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
